What Does The Face Of Modern Cannabis Prohibition Look Like?
How are prohibitionists surviving the transition into modernity?
Modern prohibitionists are elusive creatures and tend to have impeccable survival ability. They have advanced mental camouflage and persistently conduct slippery whispers, likened to that of a serpent.
Preservation through transformation involves hiding in plain sight.
Anyone who has taken basic Torts 101 knows modern cannabis prohibition evolved from slavery. If we take a quick glance at the book, “The New Jim Crow,” written by legal scholar Michelle Alexander, we can clearly see the historical evidence painting VIVIDLY the deep truths and the spiritual evolution of evil, into modernity.

Legal scholar Michelle Alexander discusses how cannabis is being used as a tool to perpetuate slavery in real time. Her book goes into MUCH GREATER detail about how the history of “original” slavery. It’s almost hard to swallow, but, original slavery was actually more humane than the more modern Jim Crow laws or even the most contemporary form of slavery, MASS INCARCERATION.
- Back when slavery began there was no dividing line between skin color or race. There were the rulers and there were the workers. Rulers had the money & control and the workers did as they were told, or risk punishment from the rulers.
How was original slavery more “humane” than the corrupt legal system of today?
Let’s begin with the statistics facts.
Original “slaves” were given a home, proper nourishment and adequate medical care. They were given life’s necessities because it produced more profit for the plantation owners. A NO BRAINER for those in control! Healthy people who feel good, do good work and produce more money for the slave owners.
And then the slaves decided they didn’t want to be slaves anymore and used communication to come together to achieve freedom. Freeing the first slaves led to the opening of Pandora’s Box, letting ALL chaos out of the bag.
What happened next, in brief summary, was the plantation owners decided to get slaves in foreign lands that didn’t speak the same language. This was for the purpose of preventing another uprise and to keep the control ABSOLUTE.
- The old saying goes, “whoever has the gold, makes the rules.” Has much changed since that was BLATANTLY true?
Then Came Jim Crow Laws
Slavery in America was ended by the US civil war.
Even though slavery was “technically” and legally at an end, racial discrimination was retained by transforming into the Jim Crow Laws. These laws separated whites and blacks in all social spheres.
Between 1876 and 1965, they mandated laws that made African American’s use different public facilities than whites. The logic was “separate-but-equal.” In reality, this led to inferior treatment from Americans of European descent. Thus legally locking in a “system” of economic, educational and social disadvantages.
Finally, the Jim Crow laws were overturned in the mid 20th century, thanks to the civil rights movement.
The War On Drugs Is The New Jim Crow
Today there are more African American adults under; correctional control, in prison or jail, on probation or parole, than were enslaved in 1850, a decade before the civil war began. In 2004, more black men were denied the right to vote than in 1870, the year the 15th amendment was ratified, prohibiting laws that explicitly deny the right to vote based on race.
War on drugs is the main culprit.
Young blacks are unproportionately imprison for nonviolent drug offenses, mostly cannabis. Upon release, they are stripped of their basic rights, such as the right to vote. They are often denied employment opportunities due to basic background checks.
- These control systems deprive black Americans as effectively as the Jim Crow laws.
This is harder to see due to unspoken prejudices, instead of overtly racist laws.
How does THIS system work more effectively than Jim Crow laws, specifically?
In her TED talk, Michelle Alexander has us imagine “institutional racism” as a military unit. People from two parts of town. Rich and poor. The poor get put through one training camp and the rich get put in an entirely different one. The poor are discriminated through military regulations. Special training schedule and eat at different times. They aren’t allowed breaks for sports because they’re perceived to be more aggressive. And on the deprivation list goes.
After tough campaigning, by the poor, the social barriers are “officially” removed. The unit also develops a zero-tolerance policy against any infractions.
- Even those who are wearing nonregulation socks are punished.
The sergeants believe the poor are natural rule breakers, therefore, the poor get more uniform checks. If caught, they are sent to a remedial unit. They are segregated, just like before. Further. Once sent to remedial. You can’t rise through the ranks or obtain extra qualifications. Injustice remains in the guise of a dress code.
Therefore, the evolution of slavery continue to transform and yield MORE power, as time moves forward.
- Felon disenfranchisement laws do the same thing that poll taxes and literacy tests could not.
Felon Vs. Jim Crow
When we think FELON, we think DANGEROUS MURDERER. Yet. This isn’t the case 100% of the times. And now, peaceful and healthy law abiding citizens are getting robbed by, bullies with badges, and being stripped of their humanity and getting labeled, unjustly, as felons.
